Trip 21-23 Yellowfin and beyond

Boy we have been busy the past few days! We started out finding a nice kelp early in the morning and captured some beautiful mahi for the guys. After we arrived at the yellowtail hole it went wide open. Very fun fish for all. The yellowtail were hungry and wanted to play. The flyline sardine and surface iron was the hot ticket and we ended up with our daily limit! Yesterday was spent fishing for yellowfin tuna and we found some good schools that cooperated very well. We had lots of action yesterday sliding into school after school for a very fun and very busy day of fishing. The guys are all smiles headed up the line towards the dock. We have a great catch onboard and the weather looks to be good for the ride home. Didn’t have too many chances in the melee for a photo but here’s one of the guys showing off some yellowfin plucked fresh from the sea.

trip 21-23 HOMEWARD BOUND

by Matt Kaullen, 9-03-2021

We have buttoned things up here and on our way home. We have had good traveling weather on our way up and feeling good about our catch. We are very fortunate to run into some awesome fishing this week. We started off with wahoo followed by an insane yellowtail bite a nice shot at beautiful mahi and ended with as good as it gets tuna action. The Youngs Tackle gang has done it again and pulled off a trip for the books. Thanks to Kevin and his team for putting the group together and bringing all the giveaways  that everyone was so happy receive. We will see you guys in the morning and we are already looking forward to next year’s expedition. Thanks guys. Matt and Independence Crew.

GREAT FISHING

After a few days of travel we are back on the fish with Bubba and the United Composites group. Bubba gave away some great gear including some beautiful UC rods Penn Reels, bombs, jigs, hats, shirts, and more. The guys got rigged up in a hurry and we were ready for battle. First stop Yellowfin Tuna and we had a fantastic day to say the least. The bulk of the fish is in the 20-30 pound range and they really cooperated. We had lots of action on those premium grade fish and took off for some Wahoo and Yellowtail. So far we haven’t seen much Wahoo but the Yellowtail are hittin! Nice fat Yellowtail have been coming over the rail this morning in the 18-30+ range. Our weather has been great thus far and we are hoping to keep picking away at these tails. All is well on this side we will check back later. Wish us luck Matt and Independence crew

trip 21-25 Good Action all around

by Matt Kaullen, 9-15-2021

We had a great day of yellowtail fishing yesterday. We ended up with our daily limit of yellowtail from 18-30+ pounds. Fun action on the yo-yo jigs and dropper loops. After scouring the area for wahoo and only catching one we started working north to put us into position for today. We ran into another nice school of yellowfin tagged a few more and sent some in the galley for a sushi spread. We started up the beach today for yellowtail and had good action yet again. The weather has turned a little choppy but the guys are in good spirits and we have high hopes for more good fishing tomorrow. Wish us luck. Matt and Independence crew.

trip 21-26 Trip Update

by Brian Pifer, 9-20-2021

We left Saturday afternoon on our Kimura 7 Day Trip with a nice load of bait and a great group of people. We were in travel mode all day Sunday and getting everyone rigged for the trip. We arrived on scene this afternoon looking for yellowfin tuna, yellowtail, and wahoo. It was definitely a tough day but we managed to scratch a day together. steady action on 15 to 30 pound yellowfin tuna with a few nice yellowtail around. We will be staying the night in hopes for another great day tomorrow. Wish us luck!!!

trip 21-26 long day

by Brian Pifer, 9-22-2021

After a long day yesterday pulling on fish, everyone got to sleep in . We looked at a few spots on our travel up for not much reward but fun fishing. Good action on nice calicos, barracuda, and 31 good grade yellowtail. Still a long ways away from home but still have some time to fish tomorrow. Wish us luck

trip 21-26 Epic fishing

by Brian Pifer, 9-23-2021

Epic fishing to finish our last day of the trip. Very fun bass fishing (it was the best I've seen 3-8 pounders). Also excellent fishing on yellowtail and caught what we needed. Everyone is super happy on the trip. We will be traveling all day tomorrow and breaking down our gear to be in Saturday morning.
