Today we departed on our 1st Annual Mike Meehan Tournament. We departed San Diego and headed straight to the bait tanks. Pictured here is Captain Mark Pisano selecting our bait for the trip. Our plans called for a long ride South to fish around 190 miles from Point Loma. Our expectatons are high. We are hoping to have fun and celebrate the life of our fishing buddy Michael Meehan.

The ride South was very smooth. Everybody had an opportunity to learn about the newest boat in our fleet. We especially liked the Satellite TV system. Not only could we watch our favorite shows in the galley but we also had receivers in each stateroom. The boat is awesome. If you have a chance go on a trip and make your own opinion.

We were blessed with a spectacular sunset. I think Mr. Meehan was responsible for this picture. We only hope that some day soon we will be fishing with other Meehan family members including Heather, Dorado Deb, and Jeremy.

We started trolling we the sun came up. It wasn't long before we found some hungry Yellowtail. Here is angler Scott Owens from Santa Barbara, CA with a nice Yellowtail. For the most part the Yellowtail were small. We ended up releasing many of the fish we caught on the first stop. Scott was lucky to catch a keeper.

We did manage to catch some nice sized Dorado. Here is a picture of a male and female Dorado in the box. I love watching people catch Dorado. They are fun because they like to jump out of the water.

We it's no secret. Fishing has been tough and our trip happened to occur in the middle of the down time. We all had fun. Doc won the beer drinking contest. He had 48 beers in three days!

Here is a nice shot of Point Loma in the morning sun.

Thanks to everybody! We had fun even though the fishing was slow. The 1st Annual Mike Meehan Tournament provided laughs and smiles for all. Thanks to the Baja Boys and Captains Mark Pisano and Paul Strasser from the Independence for a wonderful time. We look forward to the second version of the Mike Meehan Tournament next year.
