- Good evening, I just got off the phone with jeff and here's the update for the last few days of fishing. The 1st day was spent on the upper end of the ridge in very windy rough weather and they managed to catch about 35 yellowtail before taken off for the big fish zone. The first day in the zone would prove to be fruitless with nothing hooked for the entire day. The weather was still up so I am sure that had a lot to do with the fish being down. Today was another story as the weather came down and the ocean turned flat. In the afternoon the guys got on a spot of fish and they bit to the tune of 17 fish on deck when all was said and done. Six of those were over 200 pounds with a 260 pound fish being the biggest landed, the rest of the fish were in the 150 to 195 pound range. Needless to say they are going to give it one more day in that area before fishing there way north on Monday. Thanks for tuning in, The indy staff.

- Hello everyone, We are back out on our end of the year 9 day trip. After taking on a great load of bait we pointed the boat south toward the big fish grounds and will be there on friday. The weather is currently very windy and rough but the forecast is calling for improvement over the next few days which will be key in finding the fish. We are still having some problems with the e-mail system so we will report when we can. Thanks for tuning in, The Indy boys.

- Hello again, We have just returned from our Huntington beach fisherman's hardware 10 day trip. The fish we weighed in were huge with the top three fish coming in over the 300 pound mark. We had a total of 15 fish over 200 pounds, the top fish were as follows: 1st place fish was taken by Daniel Taketa and weighed in at 356.2 pounds and this is the biggest yellowfin to date on the Independence. 2nd place fish went to Curtis Kamada at 350.8 pounds and 3rd biggest fish was caught by Joe Armstead and tipped the scales at 302.8 pounds. Others to catch yellowfin over 200 pounds were Curtis Kamada with another tuna at 220.3, Daniel Taketa also with a 210.8, Dale Hustrulid with a 228.6, Jim Kirkemo with a 268.2, Sean Freeman 240.2, Modesto Alcala 210.2, Ronnie Lancaster 248.2, Craig Ronholm 295.6, Chris Landcaster 209.6, Andy Baldwin 258.0, Jim Ruch 206.8, and Phillip Howard with a 209.8 to round out the cows taken. Just about everyone on board the trip had a new personnal best yellowfin and everyone onboard caught a fish over 100 pounds. Hot stick for the trip was Bill Lescher with 6 fish over 100 pounds. This trip last year had great fishing as well so if you would like to join us next year please call after the 1st of year to book a spot. We would like to thank everyone on the trip as well as fisherman's Hardware for all the great giveaways. We want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and say thanks for another great season. We are in for christmas and will depart the day after for a 9 day trip. Check back then for more reports.

- Good day to all, We are on our final leg of the trip, 200 miles from San Diego and our ETA should be about 6:00 am tomorrow the 20th. The weather as far as the ocean goes is very nice with less than 10 knots of wind and a mild sea condition, the air temps on the other hand are just plain cold especially after spending the last week in 80 degree Southern Baja. We spent yesterday fishing The coast for 40 yellowtail on various spots, we also released about twice that many smaller yellows and lots of Bonita. Thanks for checking in, Mark, Paul, Kyle, Ron, Frank, Nick, Rolf and Javier.

12-17-2006
- Hello everyone, We spent our last day in the big fish zone for slower type fishing or should I say slower type catching. The sign of fish around is still very good; they (the tuna) just gave us the fin most of the day. We did however land 4 nice 150 to 180 pound fish at dark so it was not a total loss. We then traveled up the line at dark and made two tanks of mackerel in about 45 minutes. In the morning our day would start with wide open dorado in the 15 to 40 pound class that filled our limits out for the trip, in the afternoon we caught some school size tuna to round out the day. It's now Monday and we are headed up the coast in search of yellowtail. We'll report later on how it goes. Mark, Paul and the guys.

12-16-2006
- Hello Everyone, Hopefully this report goes through, as we have had no service since we have left. We have spent the last 3 days fishing for big yellowfin and have not been disappointed. Our total for the time here is 47 big fish of which we have 2 over 300 pounds and about 10 or 12 others over 200 pounds, the rest are in the 125 to 199 pound range. The weather is perfect just a little on the warm side. The water temps are still about 77 degrees so as it cools these fish may decide to bite better as the amount of fish is just the same as last year if not better. We'll spend another day here before starting to work north. Have a great day, Mark, Paul and the guys.

12-15-2006
- Good evening everyone. We had a great day of fishing today. The weather is still excellent with calm seas. The day started out slow but by day’s end and late bite everyone on board was having a great time. We took in 17 Tuna from 120 –190 lbs., 2 for the most part were right at 200, landed 5 over 20, and once again the magic number – 1 over 300 lbs. We’re going to do this again tomorrow, then start making our way back home. Mark, Paul and the Indy Crew.

12-14-2006
- Well just another day in paradise, weather is good and so are the seas. Saw lots of tuna, just couldn’t get the fish to bite. We did however manage to pull in 4 nice tuna ranging from 130# to 160#. Dorado was also on the menu. Everyone onboard is having a good time, so until tomorrow, check back and take care. Mark, Paul and the Indy Crew.

12-13-2006
- Hello everyone, Mark called in with updates. They just finished their first day of fishing. Today’s weather was an important factor, warm and mild seas. They had 19 big fish with 5 over 200 and 1 taped in over 300. Jim Kirkemo wanted to let his friends and families know he caught his personal best. Check in for more updates tomorrow night. Mark, Paul and the Indy Crew.

12-09-2006
- Good day everyone, We returned today from our sav-on tackle 15 day trip and big fish were as follows: 1st place went to Roger Eckhardt with a 295 pound yellowfin, this was the fish that taped out at 314, so we missed that magic mark again by a few pounds. 2nd plce went to Gary Ondrisko and came in at 276.2 and 3rd place fish for Craig English weighed in at 259.2 pounds. In total we had 11 fish over 200 pounds and most of the larger models came from the baja coast. Others with fish over 200 pounds were: Robert woods 214, Bob Kelly 226.6, Roy Nishino 227.8, Jim Audette 236.4, Don Farrell 223.6, Bill Campbell 205, John Jeffreys 228.6, and John Franke 207.6. 12-06-2006
- Hello again, I just talked to the boat tonight and this is the scoop for the last couple of days. They fished 2 full days in the PV area for some decent tuna in the 90 to 190 lb. range and then started up the coast at dark. Today was spent offshore for 13 fish. The big fish taped out at 314 lbs. and was caught by none other than Rodger Eckhardt from Sav-on tackle. Other cows taped in at 260, 240, 225, and 222, also another 5 fish taped in between 150 and 185. The weather today was choppy which made things a little tough as far as looking around and locating the fish. Roy Nishino would like his son Randy to know that he landed a 222 lb. yellowfin tuna today. Overall things looked very promising in this area for the future, please make sure to have your gear ready if your on any of the long range boats in the upcoming weeks. We will have time to put line on and rig gear on the way to the grounds, make sure all your rods and reels are in tip top shape. Good night, Mark and the rest of the Independence staff.

12-03-2006
- Good day to all, The e-mail has been down aboard the boat so I (Mark) will give you a run down for the last few days. After getting to the bank 2 passengers were injured while fishing so Captain Jeff Dubuys made the call to run in to cabo and get the guys off the boat to recivie medical treatment for there wounds. Myself and Paul flew down to meet the vessel and assist with getting both gentlemen back to the U.S for treatment which we did with very little trouble other than lots of paperwork. Both men are back home and doing fine. Please remember to bring a passport on board or at least a birth certificate just in case of a medical emergencey, I would recommend it on any trip longer than 8 days in length, this would be a very good item to have just in case. Next year it will be mandatory to do so on the longer type trips. On shorter trips of say 6 days or less we can ususlly get to area to air lift or get back to San Diego in a timly fashion. As far as the boat, they are back fishing along the coast and have had 2 days of decent fishing on yellowfin up to about 190 lbs. most fish have been in the 80 to 125 lb. range. They will be working back up the coast and fish there way closer to home. The weather has been good the last few dats after a choppy and windy start to the trip. I will update in the next couple of days as I get reports via Sat. phone. Thanks for tuning in, Mark and the Staff

11-28-2006
- Well here we are our fist day of fishing on our 15-day trip. I must say it was quite decent. We ended the day with a good grade of tuna most were 180 –185 lbs. In addition we landed 3 tuna over 200, 2 of which were over 250 lbs. Our weather hasn’t been cooperating with us its rather windy and choppy. When we're sitting' the anchor its not bad. If we keep up this pace of fishing we should end up with a great trip. Check back for further updates on tomorrows fishing. Jeff, Kyle and Indy Crew

11-27-2006
- Good evening everyone. Just a quick note, The boat is having a few problems with the sat phone in relaying email messages for the fish reports. It was indicated that they are still traveling and should be at their destination by 2am Tuesday morning. Everyone is fully rigged and the anglers are anxiously waiting for daylight so they can begin fishing. Hopefully they would be able to transmit a fish report Tuesday night. Keep in touch. Indy Crew

11-25-2006
- Hello and happy thanksgiving to everyone from us here on the independence. We departed early yesterday morning on a 15-day Sav-on tackle big fish extravaganza. We were pleasantly surprised with our bait supply at the receivers, and loaded the boat to the hilt with choice fin bait. After we cleared the point, we proceeded with the great giveaways, rods, reels, jigs, etc...... We are headed to the bank and will be preparing everyone for the trip for the next few days. We have fair sea conditions at this time. That is it for now, Jeff and the Indy crew, Kyle, John, Sean, Mike, Frank, and Ed & Walt

11-23-2006
- We would like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. The Independence will be in for the holiday so the whole crew can spend the day with their families. We will depart tomorrow for our first long trip of the year with the gang from Sav-on tackle in Santa Fe Springs. This will be for 15 days and has been sold-out for months and should be a good one to be on. Save some room for the pie, The Indy Guys.

11-22-2006
- Hello everyone, Today we returned from our 10 day open trip after a beautiful ride up the line, back to San Diego. The jackpot fish for the trip went to the following anglers, Barry Hall and Mark Backes, who landed two nice 95.4 pound yellowfin tuna for a 1st and 2nd place tie. Third place went to Randy Podolsky with a 92.4 pound Yellowfin tuna. Randy also had a yellowfin that taped out at 140 pounds that had a couple of bites out of it from a shark that did not count in the jackpot standings. We would like to thank the entire group who made the trip a pleasure to work. All and all it was another sucessful fall 10 day taking into consideration the conditions and prospects we were dealt with.

Good night from the Indy gang.

11-12-2006
- Good day everyone, We returned today from our young's tackle 10 day trip. Our last two days of the trip we could not get our e-mails to send. We spent the final days working at yellowtail fishing and also did some bottom fishing the last day. Overall a little slow but we did manage some nice fish nonetheless for our efforts. The big fish for the trip when to Mike Nagao with a very nice 116 pound yellowfin tuna caught on 40 lb. test, 2nd place fish was caught by Larry Amboy and was another yellowfin that came in at 88.4 pounds, 3rd place fish was also a yellowfin caught by Phil Meckley and tipped the scales at 82.8 pounds. Young's also gave away a rod for 4th biggest fish and Larry Amboy won the Rod with a 73.0 lb. yellowfin. We would like thank everyone on board this years trip as well as Charter master Mac McLeod for making this another fun outing. We have departed on another 10 day trip today and we will send reports back as best we can with our current E-mail system which we hope to upgrade this winter with a second unit that will allow us to send pic's as well. Thanks for checking on us and we update asap, The Indy crew.

11-11-2006
- The Independence will arrive on Sunday at approximately 5:45am.

11-09-2006
- Hello to all, We have had a little problem sending e-mails the last few days so I hope everyone is getting our reports. Today we had great fishing on big wahoo and dorado in good weather. The wahoo were up to 60 lbs. and the dorado up to 30 lbs.. The hot ticket was to sink some type of jig down deep and turn the handle fast for the wahoo; the flats on the other hand bit anything with a hook. Today Lee Robertshaw would like his wife Kathy to know he caught his first wahoo and she can pick any spot in the world for their next vacation. We plan to fish for yellowtail on the coast tomorrow. Have a great day, The Indy boys.

11-08-2006
- Good day, Today we spent fishing the rocks again and had a good day on tuna and wahoo. The wahoo were up to about 50 lbs. and the raider jigs seemed to be the hot ticket again, We also caught some larger grade tuna with the big going about 115 lbs. The weather continues to be very good just a little on the warm side. Tomorrow we are going to look offshore and see if we can connect with some wahoo and big dorado. Wish us luck, The Indy boys of fall.

11-07-2006
- Good evening, Today we fished Alijos rocks and caught 18 good grade wahoo up to 50 lbs. as well as a fair amount of yellowfin tuna and yellowtail in the 12 to 30 lb. range and some more in the 30 to 50 lb. range. The weather is perfect again with flat seas and warm air temps. We are going to try this again tomorrow and see if we can landed some of the 60 to 100 + pound fish we saw and hooked and lost today. Have a great day, The Indy Boys.

11-06-2006
- Hello again, Todays report will be short and sweet, a very slow day on the offshore grounds looking for kelps. We did catch 6 wahoo and a few handfuls of doardo but it was not the fishing we were looking forward to. On the bright side the weather is postcard perfect, Tomorrows another day so wish us lots of luck. The Indy boys.

11-05-2006
- Good day everyone, Today we started the day on the ridge and had a good night and morning bite on the dorado which we released most of since we are early in the trip and are hoping for larger fish offshore on kelps. We also had a mix of yellowtail, wahoo and a few school yellowfin tuna, but it was not exactly what we were looking for, so we spent the afternoon offshore and caught nothing for our efforts. Tomorrow we will try something different to change our luck. Mark and the guys.

11-04-2006
- Hello again, today was first day fishing. We started out looking offshore for kelp that had wahoo and dorado. Well we never found a kelp the entire day so we ended up on the ridge late in the day. We had a yellowtail bite for the last 2 hours of the day. The fish were mostly 14 to 20 lbs. with a handful in the range of 20 to 30lbs.. The good news is the weather is near perfect with very little wind and sea, Air temps. In the 80's and water in the high 70's. Tomorrow we'll start on the ridge and work south and see what we can come up with. Wish us luck, Mark and the guys

11-03-2006
- Good evening, today consisted of a detailed tackle seminar covering all aspects of 10 day fall fishing. The weather today was not very good with 15 to 18 knots of wind and a fair amount of swell rolling down the coast, it was our good fortune to be going down the coast with the seas. We'll start the trip fishing above the ridge in the morning looking for kelp with wahoo and dorado weather permitting, so until the next report have a good night and thanks for checking in, the Indy guys.

11-02-2006

Until tomorrow, take it easy, Jeff and the Indy crew

10-20-2006
- Good evening to all. Here is a quick rundown for today. We covered quite a bit of water today, and had some good success some places, and not so good others. We caught tuna, yellowtail, dorado, and 7 wahoo for our efforts. The weather is spectacular in that it is absolutely perfect. As I am writing this the sun had dipped down, and a huge green flash, followed by the guys down on deck yelling, I guess they are still getting an occasional bite on the wahoo. We have 1 more day to fish, and we will report at the end of it. See you then, Jeff and the Indy crew.

10-19-2006
- Today we fished the inside and very good action on tuna, yellowtail, dorado, and pargo. I would call it a perfect day, sunny, hot and all the yanking & cranking one could want. We are going to try this again tomorrow, only in a different location. Again, the weather is picture perfect, classic fall days. We will report again. Thanks for tuning in, the Indy crew, Jeff, Tommy, Ronny, Mike, Frank, John, and Ed & Rolf

10-18-2006
- Good evening everyone, today’s report is pretty much the same as yesterdays, except we caught a couple dozen big dorado along with some tuna and yellowtail. Things were pretty slow again. We are headed into the inside to try fishing in there for a couple of days. The weather is still good. We will report again tomorrow. See you all then, Jeff and the Indy crew

10-17-2006
- Good evening to all. Today was pretty slow for us, although we did catch some fish. It was not a total loss, 6 tuna and 16 good grade yellowtail. We are going to see if by chance things improve tomorrow. The weather is as good as it gets, flat calm. Thanks for checking in on us. Good night, Jeff and the Indy crew

10-16-2006
- Hello again everyone, we fished the rocks today and had a good day as far as quality, and the chances we had on the bigger tuna. When all was said and done, we tagged 28 tuna, with 5 that were around 100 to 115 lbs. and the rest 70 to 90 lbs. we had quite a few fish liberate themselves throughout the day. The weather is turning around for us as well. We are going to try this again tomorrow in hopes of some more of these beauties hitting the deck. See ya later, Jeff and crew

10-15-2006
- Hello everyone, Today was spent offshore in the form of kelp hunting, and we found some kelp that had no fish, or just a little bit on each. The weather is still windy and choppy for us out here as well. We did tally up 55 dorado and 3 wahoo for our efforts. We are headed to Alijos rocks for tomorrow’s activities, and hope to put together a few good days out there. good night, Jeff and the Indy crew

- Good afternoon everyone, We departed on a Kimura tackle 10 day yesterday. After putting a huge quantity of cured sardines aboard, we cleared the point and set a southerly course. After some hearty giveaways we settled in for a great prime rib dinner and the long ride down. Today was spent rigging every one for the trip, and going over the game plan for us. The weather is on the windy side, but we hope things calm down in the next few days. Thanks for checking in on us, and please wish us luck, Jeff and the Indy crew

- Good morning, today we returned from our first 10 day trip of the season. The ride home from the lower reaches of baja yesterday and last night was one of the best in years. It felt like we were tied to the dock in San Diego Bay. The big fish for the trip was caught by renowned Kona Captain Gene Vanderhoek and the yellowfin weighed in at 119.4 pounds and was caught on 40 lb. test in choppy weather to boot, the fish also contained an archival tag and was turned into the Inter tropical tuna commission, we should get the info. back in about a month and will post a report on the findings when we receive them. Second place went to "Big Wave" Dave Mcallister and weighed in at 115.1 pounds. Third place was caught by Bill "the Doc" Dunn and weighed in at 113.4 pounds. All in all the trip was a success with the usual fall ten day variety. We would like to thank everyone with us this year and hope your schedule allows you to make next year's trip.

- Good day, Today we spent our last day fishing offshore in hopes of wahoo and big flats (Dorado). The morning started out slow but the afternoon would prove to be good as we got into an area that had lots of big kelps with fish on them. The Dorado were nice size fish in the 15 to 30 lb. ranges and the wahoo were 40 to 70 lbs. We finished off our limits of Dorado and managed to land 5 wahoo and lost twice that much. Robert Leroy landed the biggest wahoo on a gold raider jig that will go about 70 lbs. The weather is still nice with 10 knots of breeze and no swell to speak of. We should arrive at Point Loma Sportfishing at about 07:00 am. Have a great day, The Indy Crew.

10-10-2006
- Hello everyone, We have spent the last 2 days on the ridge for a mix of yellowtail - Mike Randel was on fire with the big yellows, Doug Green and Gene Van Der Hoek fished yellows on the bottom last night and put several nice fish on the deck, also in the mix were dorado, school size yellowfin and a few pargo and two very nice grouper caught by Gary Bush and Bill Dunn. The weather has come down and is beautiful with very little wind and a calm sea state. We have not found any wahoo which is unusual as the conditions are good with water as hot as 84 degrees and clean water on the lower ridge. I feel that the fishing will pick soon for the wahoo because the table is set for them. We have a great group of guys and everyone seems to be catching fish. Guest fish report by Gary Bush (food is excellent) - Thanks Walter and Rollo!

- Good evening, Here's the recap from our last two days at the stones, the tuna that we hooked were tough to land due to the size of the fish and the 40 lb. test that most guys had to go to get a bite. The yellowfin were in the 60 to 110 lb. range for the most part and we did tag 50 or 60 tuna that were 12 to 30 lbs. as well. In between catching tuna we landed a variety of Dorado, yellowtail and wahoo. The weather has been windy and choppy for the entire time we fished the rocks but it seems to be getting better all the time. We are now off to the inside to see if we can put some more variety on the boat so wish us luck, the Indy guys.

10-06-2006
- Hello from the Indy, Here's the recap for the past two days, we looked offshore on our way to the rocks and found lots of kelps but they had very little fish on them, we ended up catching 1 nice 55 pound wahoo and about 10 dorado. We arrived at the rocks after lunch and the fishing was on the slow side our tally was 7 wahoo, 22 yellowtail, 6 dorado and 1 80 pound tuna, we also caught and tagged some school size yellowfin tuna as well. it's late here on our second day of fishing and fishing today was much better as we had 47 yellowfin tuna in the 50 to 100 pound range along with some dorado, wahoo and yellowtail, we also tagged some of the school size fish for a few of the guys. Weather is windy at about 20 knots and the seas are choppy which made for tough angleing for the most part. Thanks for checking us out, Mark, Paul, Kyle, Frank, Nick, Walt and Rolf.

10-04-2006
- Good evening, Today was a travel day in which we rigging tackle and had our fishing seminar as well as watched the baseball playoffs. We are going to start the trip at Alijos rocks even with reports from the area on the slow side. Fishing there has been up and down as of late so hopefully we'll be there on an up day. Thanks for checking in, The indy boys.

10-03-2006
- Hello everyone, Today we returned from our 8-day Fish' N Fools Tackle. We would like to thank everyone on the trip this year as well as Stu and Dennis from the shop for the work they put in getting the tackle together for the giveaways. Jackpot is as follows: 1st place Bob O'neil 121.4 Yellowfin, tie for 2nd place Steve Zielinski and Norman chibana each with 113.6 Yellowfin. We have turned right around and are back out on the Art's tackle 10-day trip. After loading a good bunch of sardines we are headed south with high hopes for a good trip. We'll report on the trip as we start to fish so check back later and see how it's going. Mark, Paul and the guys.

10-02-2006
- The Independence will dock at Point Loma Sportfishing at 6am.

10-01-2006
- Hello again everyone, here is a brief account for today. We fished for a couple hours today and kept some more yellowtail and pargo, while 5 wahoo made their way aboard, a few escaping as well. We are headed back to San Diego under windy choppy sea conditions. Most everyone is relaxing etc.... we will post one more time before Tuesday's arrival. See you all then. Jeff and crew

09-30-2006
- Good evening everyone, here is the latest from the bridge of the sportfishing vessel independence. We fished inside on the ridge today, and had another great day fishing. We had great action on yellowtail and pargo for most of the day until late when things died on us. We also had some more Dorado to fill things out. Everyone had a great time today fishing for the bottom grabbers. We did see some good sign of 15 to 18 lb. tuna, but we released most of them. We are going to fish for a couple of hours tomorrow and then call it a trip. Good night, and wish us luck tomorrow. Jeff and the Indy crew, Tommy, Sean, Ronny, Billy, and Mike

09-29-2006
- Greetings to all from the independence. . Today started out very wet and windy. Things soon changed for the better. The wind died and the skies were sunny. We had one epic day today, as we were steady all day long on quality tuna, most fish were 65 to 85lbs, and 5 were 100 to 120 lbs. when the dust all settled, we tagged 85 tuna, and 30 dorado for our day. We couldn't be more pleased with the way things are going for us. Everyone is sore right now, including Caleb’s father Bob; we are headed inside right now to take a look at things on the ridge. Wish us luck please, Jeff and the Indy crew

09-28-2006
- This is the latest fishing report from the sport fishing vessel independence. Today we sat for the entire day and managed to keep at least 1 or 2 fish hooked for the most part. We had some good action on the kite, as well as sardines. We did sample 4 nice wahoo also. I would say the tuna ran 60 to 80 lbs. with 1 fish around the century mark. The final tally was 48 tuna, 4 wahoo, and a released marlin. The weather was wet for most of the afternoon, steady rain. We are going to give this another go for tomorrow, as we are enjoying some good quality tuna fishing. Please wish us luck, the Indy crew

09-27-2006
- Hello, and good evening from the independence. Here is what we have been up to since departing San Diego. We traveled all day yesterday and arrived at the rocks around noon. We got to work and put together a decent afternoon, as in some tuna action on the kite, and sardines. The final tally for today was 34 tuna, 75 to 95 lbs., and 1 wahoo, 1 shortbill spearfish for our efforts. The weather is very good for fishing or just about anything else out here. We are going to try this again tomorrow. Thanks for checking in on us, Jeff and the Indy boys

09-25-2006
- Hello everyone, We'll give you an update on what's been happening the last few days as the e-mail link on the boat is giving us a few problems. The last day of our 5 day trip was on the slow side but we did manage some dorado off of kelps for the final day of fishing. The big fish for the trip went to Steve Sowa with a 71.2 lb. yellowfin tuna, the 2nd place yellowfin was landed by Rob Seale and came in at 67.0 lbs. and 3rd place went to Scott Mohr with a 60.8 lb. yellowfin tuna. We would like to thank everyone onboard the trip and hope to see you on next years trip. We then departed on our first longer trip of the year which is an 8 day, after taking on a good load of sardines we plan to start at alijos rocks and see if the recent trend of better fishing holds up when we get there. Thanks for checking us out, The Indy guys.

09-23-2006
- Good evening to all. Here is the report for today. We tried for yellowtail today, and were greeted with some of the best fishing we have seen in a while on yellas. It was full speed on bait or jigs, which ever you wanted to fish. Everyone had a complete blast yanking and cranking on fish. The weather today was great as well. This was just what we needed for our group. We are going to try our hand at the offshore thing tomorrow. Good night, and thanks for checking in. Jeff and the Indy crew

09-22-2006
- Hello again everyone, Things started off pretty good today, 3 wahoo, 12 tuna, and 6 big yellowtail, all by 1100. Then things completely died on us. We have opted to run inside to fish for yellowtail tomorrow, in hopes of getting some action for everyone on board. The weather is still very good for us. Things out at lupe were a bit disappointing, but we did get some quality fish while we were there. We will check in again tomorrow. Thanks for checking in, Jeff and the Indy crew

09-21-2006
- Here is what we know at this time from the sportfishing vessel independence. We started our trip at the Lupe, and I can't say that I saw anything very impressive today. We didn’t put together a very good day. We caught hand full of big yellowtail, and the sharks ate the only tuna we hooked. We are going to try this again tomorrow in hopes that things pull a 180 and get going again. We have great weather. Please wish us luck, Jeff and the Indy crew

09-20-2006
- Hello everyone, we Just returned from a 5-day trip this morning,we would like to thank the great group of guys who made the trip. Please wish us luck, Jeff and the Indy crew

09-19-2006
- The Independence will dock at Point Loma Sportfishing at 5:45am.

09-18-2006
- Good evening, Today we sat most of the day trying for yellowfin tuna and had our best day of the trip on beautiful grade tuna; still the fish are very picky when it comes to biting the hooks. The show of fish around the boat was just plain incredible with fish blowing out all day long in every direction. Later in the day we did fish for yellowtail and had some 20 to 30 lb. yellows to end our day. The weather is near perfect with a Very light breeze and no sea state. Tomorrow we will try the offshore scene and see what we can come up with. Until then take care, The Indy boys.

09-17-2006
- Good evening, Today was better in terms of catching fish but still not red hot by any means. We have caught about 50 mixed yellowfin and yellowtail along with one wahoo that was about 65 lbs. Most of the fish again were 30 to 80 lbs. Highlight of the day was a yellowtail that may go 80 lbs. at least that is what it weighed on a hand scale. The weather is epic, hot and sunny and no wind or seas. We plan to fish bait again tonight and hope the fish bite better tomorrow. Thanks for checking in, Mark and the gang.

09-16-2006
- Hello everyone, Today we started the trip at the big island and put in close to a full day for not a whole lot, we ended the day with 23 mixed tuna and yellowtail for the day. The fish are 25 to 70 lbs. so most are nice ones. We are currently fishing for squid to use tomorrow and hope that sparks the bite. There is still a very good amount of fish around so we are hoping for a big day. The weather is very good and it looks to be better next week from the forecast. Thanks for checking in, the guys on the Indy.

09-15-2006

Mark and the guys.

09-14-2006

09-13-2006
- Greetings again from the sportfishing vessel Independence. Here is a brief account for today's activities. We arrived at the outer island around 0800 and saw some decent signal of tuna. We started off getting most of what we hooked on board. Then after lunch we got taxed heavily by the sharks. Even after moving the boat, things didn’t get much better. We still had a good day by most standards. We did get 2 fish that were 100 to 115 lbs. that didn't get eaten by whitie. The weather is still really good. We are going to spend the morning here and then depart for home. See you all then, Jeff and crew

09-12-2006
- Hello from the Independence. We covered quite a bit of water today in search of yellowtail. Some places we didn’t see anything of interest, other places we saw yellows, but there was sooo much bonito that it was impossible to fish. We did manage to get some fish in the afternoon to save the day. We are headed back out to lupe to try for more tuna fish tomorrow. Please wish us luck, Jeff and the Indy crew

09-11-2006
- Good evening everyone, here is a quick account for today. We arrived at the island around 0900 and found a spot to anchor. It was a little slow, as we only caught 12 tuna and 1 yellowtail for our efforts.. We are going to try for some yellowtail tomorrow, in hopes of getting some action for everyone. The weather is still good. Wish us luck, Jeff and crew

09-10-2006

- Hello everyone, not too much to report for today. We caught some of that good grade yellowtail this morning and some big calico we tossed back, and then we had to depart for home. I think the trip was a huge success in that most everyone caught their personal best on tuna or yellowtail. We will be back to port at 0715 tomorrow, and then departing soon after loading everyone for the next tour. Talk to you later, Jeff and crew

09-08-2006
- Greetings from the vessel independence. Here is a rundown for today’s activities. We had an absolutely fabulous day on yellowfin tuna. We kept busy for most of the day, although we went dry a couple of times, and ended up with 65 of these beauties, 55 to 85 lbs. fish. Everyone had a great time pulling and yanking in the hot sunshine. We did get taxed by the sharks, I think we would have had an even better score, but that’s the way it goes. We are going to try for some yellowtail in the morning before we have to throw in the towel. Good night, Jeff and the Indy boys

09-07-2006
- Good evening to all. We arrived at the island around 1145 and started our day right away. We had some good fishing for the 1/2 day we spent here. 09-05-2006
- Good morning everyone, We have fished for yellowfin and yellowtail the last 24 hours and had good fishing on 40 to 100+ pound tuna and 20 to 35 pound yellowtail. We are now homeward bound and should be in between 8 and 8:30 AM. Everyone had a great time and the group is planning on doing this trip again for the fourteenth year in a row with us going back to 1993 on the Islander. There may be a spot or two on next year’s trip so check with Donny or Norris in a week if you want to fish with some really good rod and reelers. Thanks for checking in, Mark and Paul and the guys.

09-04-2006
- Hello everyone, This is the recap for the past 2 days as the e-mail would not respond the last 2 nights, we are sending this in the AM on the 4th. The yellowtail fishing was good for us with fish mostly in the 15 to 25 lb. class with 10 % smaller and 10 % bigger than that. The hurricane that went over the cape never came our direction and is now in the Sea of Cortez as a Tropical Depression and is no longer a factor for the fleet here on the pacific side. Today we are at Guadalupe Island and are hooking tuna early in the AM and plan to do this for the rest of the day. Thanks for tuning in and we will report later on today’s outcome, Mark and Paul and the gang.

09-01-2006
- Good afternoon, We returned today from our Sav-On tackle 4-day trip, which fished both San Benitos Island and Guadalupe Island. The jackpot for the trip went to the following anglers: 1st place Doug Fraser 78.6 YFT, 2nd place Roy Michael 72.8 YFT, 3rd place Pete Preest 68.0 YFT. We would like to thank all the folks who made the trip this year with us and our long time friends Roger Eckhardt and Bob Solamon from Sav-on tackle in Santa Fe Springs who always put together a great group of guys for these trips. We are now under way on the Norris Tapp / Don Brockmen 5-day adventure and are currently headed south with a nice load of Dine's in very good weather. We plan to start the trip in search of yellowtail and keep a close eye on hurricane John that is presently just south of Cabo and headed up the coast. We here in the San Diego Long range fleet have the latest in weather tacking software and will watch this system very closely as it develops so please do not worry as we will fish prudent to the conditions. Thanks for checking in, Mark, Paul, Kyle Sean, Ron, Frank, Walt and Rolf.

08-31-2006
- Hello, from the sportfishing vessel Independence. Here is a quick report for today. We opted to fish a couple of hours in the morning and then ride home. We had a fairly good morning in terms of some quality yellowtail, 30 to 50 lbs. and tuna 50 to 70 lbs. when all was said we had 25 mixed fish. A great way to end the trip. We will be back to San Diego tomorrow at 0715, and be departing again. Thanks for checking in on us, Jeff and the Indy crew

08-30-2006
- Hello and good evening everyone, Today was a true test of ones patients while standing at the rail. We didn’t have the best conditions, which made it difficult for most to conduct business while trying for the tuna. We did manage to capture 23 of these beauties 50 to 75 lbs. and a hand full of big yellowtail. The weather remains very appealing to us out here as well lets hope for the best tomorrow. See ya then, Jeff and the Indy boys.

08-29-2006
- Good evening from the Indy crew. Today we did some travelling to a remote destination in search of yellowtail. When we arrived we were greeted with some of the best fishing I have seen in a while on yellowtail. It was fast and furious for hours. Bait or jigs you name it, they inhaled it. The weather was as good as it gets, so all & all we had an excellent day. We are going to try for some tuna tomorrow, in hopes of settling our jackpot. We will report again when the day is at an end tomorrow. See ya then, Jeff and crew

08-28-2006

08-26-2006
- Hello and good evening to all. We had some good yellowtail fishing on big fish, as well as a decent shot at the quality tuna today. I will say the tuna got the best of us, in the sense that they managed to escape half of the time we were connected to them. All-N-All we had a great time as usual. The weather is awesome, and we hope to keep it that way. We will report again tomorrow, see you all then, the Indy boys

08-25-2006
- Well, hello again from the vessel independence. Our report for today is almost the same as yesterday except for the wind took the day off, and it was really hot all day long. We did have 3 or 4 stand out fish in the 90 to 100 lb. classes to go along with the standard beauties we are catching. We also had some signal on beefy yellowtail as well. We are going to see if we can repeat this again tomorrow. Thanks for tuning in. Jeff and the Indy crew

08-24-2006

Wish us luck please, Jeff and the Indy crew

08-22-2006
- Today we returned from the tuna trackers 5 day trip with a beautiful catch of 40 to 113 lb, yellowfin tuna and good numbers of 20 to 50 lb. yellowtail. There was no jackpot on this charter but the big fish for the trip went to Gail and Ian Orr who tag teamed a 113 lb. yellowfin tuna for big fish honors on the trip. We would like to thank everyone who made this year's trip, and of course Al Frink who is the charter master for the trip. Next year's trip will be in the same time frame and Al will be taking over all the bookings for the trip. Thanks for tuning in. Mark Pisano and the entire staff of the Indy.

08-21-2006
- Hello again, Sorry for the late report as our e-mail program would not respond last night. We spend the day catching 40 to 75 lb. yellowfin tuna as well as 20 to 40 lb. yellowtail. All in All it was another good day of fishing. We are now headed home in improving weather and plan to get in about 7:30 AM. Thanks for tuning in, Mark and the guys.

08-20-2006
- Hello again, today we fished the yellowfin tuna zone and were not disappointed, the fish we caught were mostly in the 40 to 80 lb. range with one stand out at about 120 lb. caught by Gail Orr. We also caught some nice yellowtail in the 25 to 40 lb. range early this morning on the mackerel and dropper loop rigs. The weather is still a bit windy but there is no sea to go with it so it's good for us while we are fishing. We are going to try this for another day so wish us luck, Mark and the crew of the Independence.

08-19-2006
- Good evening, That's a good thing because we were busy catching fish ‘till' late tonight. We had a good day on the 40 to 70 lb. yellowfin tuna and we also caught Wahoo, Striped marlin, Yellowtail and Dorado. The weather is a bit on the windy side but overall it's good. We plan to do this again tomorrow so have a great day and we'll talk to you later, Mark and the guys.

08-18-2006
- Good evening, This what we have been doing the last 2 days out here. Our last day of the trip was spent traveling home and fishing for very little. Today we returned to Point Loma and the jackpot fish for the trip were Hidetaro Kashima with a 121.2-lb. yellowfin for 1st place, Pete Fosselman in 2nd. place with a 74.6 lb. yellowfin and Loren Cogswell with a 71.0 lb. yellowfin good for 3rd. place. Honarable mention and then some goes to Sam Raiter with a 128.2 lb. yellowfin tuna. We would like to thank the whole Tuna Turner group for the great trip we had, as you were all very fun to work with. We then departed on another 5-day trip and after loading a nice bunch of sardines are headed to points south and will let you know how the trip starts tomorrow. Mark and the guys.

08-16-2006
- Good evening everyone today was spent looking for yellowtail and we found some willing to bite our hooks just not as many as we had hoped for. We did catch some on yoyo iron and bait. The weather was absolutely perfect all day. During dinner tonight the giant squid made a showing so the guys went out and caught some in the 25 to 40 lb. range. We our currently headed up the line and are planning on trying for some more yellowtail on the coast. Good night, Mark and the guys.

08-15-2006
- Good morning to all, We fished offshore again today and were treated to a great day of fishing on 35 to 70 lb. yellowfin tuna. We stayed busy throughout the day with 2 to 5 going most of the day. The hot ticket to get bit was 30 and 40 lb. test blue Izorline with a short leader of fluorocarbon of the same test and a 2/0 circle or J type hook with a hot sardine. I would also like to mention the small Avet jx and lx 2 speed reels, they have been by far and away the best to fish with in terms of landed these better grade fish due to the low gear. The weather continues to be very nice as well. We plan to try for some yellowtail tomorrow so wish us luck. Mark and the Indy boys.

08-14-2006
- Good morning, Today we started looking in an area at about 9AM and had very slow fishing; at about noon we rolled into a different zone and got busy on a school of 35 to 120 pound yellowfin tuna. Staying busy well into the dark with 2 to 5 going most of the day with up to 12 going before dark. We ended the day with 96 of these beautiful tuna, the weather is gorgeous with a flat ocean and air temps in the 80's at mid day. We plan on doing this tomorrow and hope for the same action. Mark and the guys.

- Good evening, Today we had a nice change in the fishing department with good fishing on 18 to 25 lb. yellowtail. The fish bit the jigs best but also bit the flylined sardines and sardines on sinker rigs. The weather has been windy with choppy seas so we are hoping tomorrow brings better conditions. Good night, Mark and the guys.

06-12-2006
- Hello everyone, Today was very tough fishing as we only tagged a couple of fish for the day. On the bright side the weather was perfect and we did catch and release some small yellowtail for a little bit of action. The weather is coming up a bit so we are going to try a different venue for tomorrow. Take care, Mark and the crew.

06-11-2006

- Hi everybody, we spent the day at San Benitos Island looking for yellowtail for most of the day. We had good action early in the morning, and then things shut off for the rest of the day. We tried for some jumbo reds in the afternoon, and had good success on 5 to 8 lb. red cod. All & all we caught 81 nice grade yellows, 18-lb. average up to 25 lbs. we are headed up the line in hopes of some offshore action for tomorrow. The weather is now a little bit breezy and choppy. See ya later Jeff and crew

06-08-2006
- Good afternoon to all. Here is a quick report for today. We fished until 1200 hrs, and had great success for those Alijos brand yellowtail. While we caught only 3 tuna this morning, we boated 44 of those big yellows. We are on our way up the line in hopes of a good day trying for more yellowtail tomorrow. The weather is still good, and we hope it continues for a while. We should arrive at our destination around 0900, and see what the day brings. Wish us luck, the Indy crew

06-07-2006
- Today was a whole different day than yesterday, literally. Things were on the tough side for us. We saw quite alot of fish, but they were on their own program. We caught 11 tuna and 11 yellowtail for our efforts. The weather is still great. We are going to fish here for half a day and then get a move on. See ya later Jeff and crew

06-06-2006
- Hello again everyone, here is the fishing report for today. We had a really fun day today. We did not have much current early in the morning, but about 1030 the fish started biting, and stayed steady for the rest of the day. We kept 2 to 5 going for most of the time. These are a beautiful grade yellowfin, 25 to 60 lbs. The final tally for today is 92 tuna and 5 yellowtail. The weather is absolutely gorgeous, just enough breeze to keep us cool. We are going to try this again tomorrow. Wish us luck, Jeff and the Indy crew

06-05-2006
- Good evening to all. We arrived at the stones around 1130 this morning. The weather has been as good as it gets since departing San Diego. We got to work as soon as we arrived here. While we did not have the greatest conditions, we managed to stay fairly busy for the most part. We ended up with 31 tuna 25 to 50 lbs. and 21 yellowtail that were good grade Alijos brand. Things look good out here for the most part. Wish us luck for tomorrow, Jeff and the Indy boys

06-04-2006
- Good evening everyone, not too much to report for today. We traveled all day, and had a tackle seminar, got everyone rigged up properly. We had trolling jigs in the water all day and caught nothing but a few bonito. The weather is great, just a little breeze. We will arrive at the rocks around noon tomorrow. Wish us luck. Jeff and the Indy crew

06-03-2006

We are now out again on an 8-day trip sponsored by Fisherman’s Hardware. After loading some choice sardines, we headed out of San Diego bay. There were some great giveaways, including 5 new fishing rods, jigs, and other assorted gear. The weather is good as well. We are headed south at this time, and have Alijos rocks as our destination. Check back again for further up dates. , Jeff and the Indy crew

- Hello again, Today we returned from our 5 day brian and Ric charter and the big fish as follows 1st place went to Bud Edwards with a 54.2 pound yellowtail a new best yellowtail for bud, 2nd place went to Steve Virture with a 40.6 yellowtail and Lee blaisdell took 3rd with a 36.1 yellowtail. All and all we good fishing at the island but the offshore fishing was rather tough on us. The water conditions look good in the entire 5 day zone with clean 63.5 to 65 degree water so I feel good about the near furture for albacore and bf offshore. I would like to thank all guys and gal on the trip for making this charter so much fun to fish on. Good luck, Mark and the entire Indy Staff.

05-31-2006
- Good evening, The report for today is short and sour as the fishing offshore was a blank on the tuna types. We did catch and keep some yellowtail however as well as release some to grow and bite another day. The weather was good with less than 12 knots of wind and moderate sea conditions. We'll be out on a 11/2-day trip tomorrow so hopefully fishing picks up in the short area. Good Luck, Mark, Kyle, Sean, Walt, Rolf, Tom, Dan and Steven.

05-30-2006
- Hello again, Today was another good day in the lee. We had an all day pick on beautiful grade yellowtail up to about 50 pounds with some of the folks landing there personal best yellowtail. The weather here is nice also; tomorrow we will try our hand at some offshore fishing for albacore. Have a nice day, Mark and the guys.

05-29-2006
- Good day to all, Today was a nice change of pace from yesterday as we had fair fishing on good size yellowtail for most of the day. The fish were in the 20 to 30 lb. range so we did lose many to the rocks, but 78 good ones did end out on the deck of the Indy. Weather is good fishing here in the lee of the Island as well. We'll spend tomorrow here in hopes of the same action. Take care, Mark and the boys.

05-28-2006
- Hello everyone, We hope that you all had a safe and fun Memorial Day. Today we worked our way down the coast and fished offshore looking for albacore and bluefin tuna. Fishing was very slow to say the least, we did not catch a single fish for our efforts. We did see one school of 20 to 40 lb. bluefin that boiled up good but did not bite and that was all we saw fish wise for the day. The weather was ok with 15 knots of breeze and moderate sea conditions. Tomorrow we will be at one of the islands looking for yellowtail so wish us luck we will need it. Mark and the boys.

05-27-2006
- Good day everyone, We returned today from our Bakerman's Fish Fest 5-day charter and our Jackpot was a 65 pound yellowtail. The fish tally for the trip was 115 yellowtail and 13 albacore. We would like to thank James Baker and the guys for putting together this charter with only 13 fisherman. Today departed on Brian and Ric's 5-day charter and after putting on a good load of Sardines we are headed south and will look offshore for tuna tomorrow. Talk to you later, Mark and the guys.

05-26-2006
- Hello everyone, not too much to report today, as we opted to run up the beach and take a look at San Martin Island. It was quite windy on the offshore scene, the beach was the call. We did not see any yellowtail, but had good action on lingcod and some reds. We should be back to San Diego at 0700 tomorrow. See you then, Jeff and crew

05-25-2006
- Good evening everyone, here is the latest. Today we had a little less wind, and that was quite nice for fishing. We had many chances at these good grade yellows, and managed to catch 54 of these beauties. Everyone had a really good time pulling on these brutes. We are headed up the line for tomorrows fishing activities. Right now we have choppy seas. Talk to you all later. Jeff and the Indy crew

05-24-2006
- Hello again everyone, we fished San Benitos island today for some yellowtail. We did not have perfect conditions, as the lack of current made things tough for the most part. We did scratch 47 good grade yellows 20 to 30 lbs. and we have one standout fish I think will go 60 lbs. we plan on spending the next day here as well. There has been a lot of wind, and I hope it backs off for us. See you all later, Jeff, Kyle and Indy crew

05-23-2006
- Well today was our first day to try for fish, and we had a little bit of action on the offshore scene. For the most part we had windy, choppy conditions. We released quite a few yellowtail, and caught 13 albacore. We are going to try for some yellowtail tomorrow at one of the islands down below, in an effort to get out of this wind. wish us luck, jeff and the Indy crew.

- Good day everyone, Today’s fishing was on the slow side, we had some good size wahoo. Managed to bring 8 tuna on board that weighed in between 50 – 165#. There seemed to be plenty sharks around the area, which made fishing a little tough. Still good weather and the guys are enjoying each others company. Still have one more day of fishing. So wish us luck. Jeff, Mark and the Indy Crew.

02-22-2006
- Hello everyone. There was a small problem with our Sat phone yesterday, for some reason the captain couldn’t call out, so here’s a run down on the last 2 days. On Tuesday they scratched on some small tuna 75-100#. Picked up some good grades of wahoo. Today’s report was a little better fishing. 41 wahoo, 8 tuna. 3 of which was 170-185#. Most of the tuna they brought on board were 70-80#. The weather is good, nice breeze, so the kite fishing is fun. Hopefully the fishing picks up for Thursday. Tune in for more up-dates. Jeff, Mark and the Indy Boys.

02-20-2006
- Good evening everyone, the report for today is quite bleak, the signs are good for some of the smaller grades of tuna, but not much on the big tuna yet. Everyone is having a good time, so check back on Tuesday night for more reports. Mark, Jeff and the Indy Crew.

- Today the boat returned from our end of the year 8 day. They did come in with a fair catch of tuna a nd yellowtail but did not catch any of the big fish. The days they spent in the big fish area the weather was up and made things tough on locating any of the bigger fish. The weather came down and the bigger fish came up and bit for the guys that were there. We will be leaveing on our first long trip of the season on the 5th. We have had some probelms with both our web site and the e-mail link on the boat and we are trying to get things worked out asap. Thanks for checking in.
