- Well everyone, the year 2004 will come to an end in a couple of hours, and I must say the last 6 months were the best ever. Things on board the independence could not be better. We started the day fishing for yellowtail and grouper and had a pretty fair morning, until they quit biting around 11:00. We tried various other spots and scratched some more before heading to our next destination for New Year's day. The weather is breezy, but still good for travel. We hope to catch some more yellows tomorrow, so with that, I wish everyone a happy New Year. See ya later, Jeff and crew

- Hello to all. Today's report is short and to the point. Things were different today in the same area we fished yesterday. We did not see the volume we did before, and as a result things were slow. We spent the rest of the day offshore looking for various signs of fish, and only came up with smaller grade tuna. We are going up the beach a ways to look for some yellowtail and possibly some more tuna. The weather is still good. See ya, Jeff and crew

- Hello and good evening everyone, here is the fishing report for today. We had good bait fishing last night, and filled one tank with green mackerel. Today we spent the day on one of the banks, and had good action on 15 to 25 lb. tuna, with a handful of 30 to 40 lb. fish also. Things seem to on the tough side for the bigger tuna, as they have not been seen lately. We had steady rain for a good part of the day, but the weather is good right now. We will try for the same kind of day tomorrow, and most likely look offshore as well. Jeff and crew

- Hello everyone, here is the report for Tues. the 28th. Today we worked down to an area we thought we would see some Wahoo, but we did not see a single fish. We did encounter some tuna in the 10 to 15-lb. range that were biting good, but we aren't really in the market for that size fish. We are going to continue our quest for some bigger tuna tomorrow in a different area. The weather was again choppy, with some rain. We will report again tomorrow. Jeff and crew

- Good evening everyone, not too much to report for today, except the usual tackle seminar and rigging up everyone for the trip. We have had some weather in the way of windy conditions. For the most part the prevailing winds have been from the south to southeast all day mostly 20 to 25 knots. No rain yet though. We plan on starting to look after mid morning on Tuesday. Wish us luck, and hope the wind dies down. See ya later, Jeff and crew

- Good morning everyone, we are in the process of recuperation, as well as cleaning and other projects on board. Most everyone is in complete rest mode, sleeping, watching t.v. or just sitting around talking about the trip. We have excellent weather to travel home, but still have a couple of days to go until our arrival on Wed the 22nd at 7 a.m. other than that, we don't have much to report at this time. See ya later jeff and crew

- Good evening to all. Here is a basic run down on our last day of fishing. Things were pretty much the same as far as time of day, the morning hit, and then just one fish now and again until the late afternoon. We did pick up 3 more tuna over 200 lbs. this afternoon, as well as the 140 to 180 lb. fish mixed in. today's tally is 35 tuna and 13 Wahoo. I must say that this trip was by far the most epic fishing I have ever seen in all the years I have been out. The weather is absolutely perfect, and each and every passenger is in total awe as the trip ended with a bang. If there were a true definition for the term real barnburner this would have to be it. I think we have between 15 and 20 cows for the trip. We are headed back to San Diego right now, and will report back in a day or so. Until then, take care, Jeff and crew

- Hello again everyone, here is a quick recap of our day. Last night we picked up 3 fish from 160 lbs. to 220 lbs. after dinner. Today we started off the morning with 8 tuna, and then things went dry until the afternoon. As of 4 p.m. we had only 8 fish. Things went absolutely wide open from 5 until 7 p.m. on 160 to 185 lb. tuna. We ended up with 37 Tuna and 11 Wahoo. We were quite busy, and things worked out well for the most part, due to everyone working together. We have 1 more day to fish, and hope to catch a few more cows. The weather is very civil, and conditions are perfect. Wish us luck for tomorrow. Jeff Debuys

- Good evening everyone, here is the report for wed. Things started out very good this morning, as soon as we started fishing. Good kite action and sardine as well as chunks were all working. About 10:30 things went slack for most of the day about 5 p.m. we got another hit, and threw on another 7 or 8 decent fish, and then we were done. We ended up with 37 Tuna and 4 Wahoo for the day. The grade is still the same beautiful 130 to 190 lb., with a couple of 100 lb. fish mixed in. we did get one fish right at 200 lbs. and one at 220. The weather is still good, and we hope it holds for us. That is all we have to report, and we will report again tomorrow. See you then. Jeff and crew

- Hello everyone, here is the latest fishing report for us. Today we had sensational action pretty much like yesterday. The action was steady all day long, with the late afternoon being the best once again. Sardines and chunk as well as the kites were the hot ticket. The tally for today is 65 tuna and 2 Wahoo. The only thing different with the grade of tuna was we saw some 100 lb. mixed in with the stock 130lb. to 195lb. We did pick up 4 cows up to 220 lbs. with 3 days left to fish, things are looking extremely good for us. We are fortunate to be getting in on this kind of action, as this is epic fishing. Take care, and wish us luck. Jeff and crew

- Well everyone, there is only one word that comes to mind to describe today's fishing. WOW. After a slow start in the morning, things really got rolling after 12 noon. We had a really steady afternoon on sardines and kites. Things look extremely good out here. We ended up with 54 tuna and 5 Wahoo for the day. While we only had 1 fish over the magic 200-lb. mark, there were lots and lots of fish in the 150 to 190 lb. ranges. The action was hot and heavy at times, and the guys did a great job working together. We have quite a bit of fishing time left, and we hope things keep rolling along for us. Until then, keep a bent rod, and wish us more good luck. Jeff DeBuys and crew

- Hello everyone, here is the latest report for the Independence. We had a very early morning scratch bite on some decent grade Yellowfin Tuna. Things fell apart around 7 a.m., and did not get going again until after lunch. The afternoon bite was very good. No single bait did better than another, as everything was working. The weather is windy; so kite action has been consistent as well. The grade of fish is beautiful, as the bulk of it is 140 to 190 lbs. we did pick up 4 cows today up to 235 lbs. The tally for today was 44 tuna and 3 wahoo. We have plenty of time to put together a great trip. We will report again tomorrow, so please wish us luck. See you then, Jeff Debuys

12-11-2004
- Good morning everyone, we are almost to our destination, and everyone is full of hope that things will continue on the path they are on. We have spent the last couple of days preparing and rigging for battle. We are well armed with a variety of baits, as well as the finest tackle available. The weather is as good as it could possible be. We will update our report when we have some real fish news. Wish us luck. Jeff and crew

- Good evening everyone, we finally got to the hot spot and things look pretty good here. We had a little bit of action, and saw good fish as well. We ended up with 23 tuna, 3 of which were over 200 lbs. and the rest were between 125 and 190 lbs. The weather is very good, and the action on the kites was good at times. Not much Wahoo around, as we caught only 4 for today. That is pretty much the long and short of it, and we will post another report tomorrow. See you then. Jeff and crew

12-09-2004
- Good afternoon everyone, we departed San Diego a few days ago and picked up a load of sardines for our 15 day extravaganza. We were lucky and found some mackerel yesterday before the sun went down. Our weather is breezy, but we are going in the right direction. We spent the last 2 days doing tackle seminars, and rigging everyone with the latest techniques to tackle and tame any tuna we run into in the next couple of weeks. We have a great bunch of guys who are ready for the trip of their life. We will try to catch some squid tonight and tomorrow night. Things sound very promising for us, and we hope it holds up for us. We will report again in the next day or so. Until then keep a tight line, and wish us luck. Paul, Jeff and crew

Next year we may extend the trip to 12 days to give us a better shot at the big fish!

- The last 2 days have been spent fishing the ridge for the usual species. We had decent Wahoo fishing to go with plenty of school size Yellowfin Tuna and a good snap on 10 to 25 lb. yellowtail along with a few misc. fish. Our weather has been great the last 3 days. We are now headed north to finish up on some yellowtail on the coast. Wish you were here, the crew

12-01-2004
- We have been covering a lot of ground the last few days looking for the big yellowfin tuna that have been around. With just a sample of the better grade fish on the boat. We also had some wahoo the first day of fishing. The weather has been tough to look offshore, with wind up to 50 knots one night and mostly 15 to 30 knots everyday. It's Wednesday and the weather is the best we have had on the trip and were picking at tuna up to 80 lbs. Wish us luck as we'll be looking again for the big YF later on. The Indy crew

11-26-2004

We will depart friday on our last 10 day trip of the year with the gang from sav-on tackle in santa fe springs. check back next week as we are still getting the bugs out of our e-mail link from the boat. We wish all a happy and save thanksgiving from the staff of Independence sportfishing.

11-21-2004
- We are now working north and had a good day on the wahoo. It was wide open at times which made for some lost fish but 82 wahoo ended up on the boat. We will be looking for some yellowtail to finish the trip with.

11-20-2004
- We have been picking at nice yellowfin tuna up to about the 185lb. mark. although the fish have not bit as well as they show we have had our shots each day. The yellowfin have acted more like bluefin tuna jumping around and eating the chum and biting a few baits with hooks. the signs of fish are still very good so are hopes are high for the days to come.

- Just in......
The Independence had a great day today. They caught 39 Yellowfin Tuna 34 of which were over 100 pounds. The majority of the fish were in the 125 to 150 pound class. They did have one fish that taped out at 190 pounds. Stay tuned as more reports will be coming in during this 10 day trip.
